Energy Efficiency Tips For Your Home !


Heating your home uses a significant amount of energy and can be costly. To lower the operating cost of your furnace it needs to run a peak performance.

  • Have your furnace serviced annually or at first sign of performance loss to maintain efficiency.
  • Change filter monthly, a clogged filter makes the furnace run poorly significantly increasing your heating bill.
  • Upgrade outdated furnace equipment.
  • Use vacation settings on thermostat and water heater when away for extended periods.

Increase Your Homes Energy Rating

  • Seal any areas that have drafts or where air is escaping to prevent furnace from continuously running.
  • If insulation is not adequate have it upgraded.
  • Upgrade outdated less efficient windows.
  • Install a heat recovery ventilator (HRV).
  • Look for energy star products.

Electrical Efficiency

  • Use large electrical appliances off peak hours (i.e. washer/dryer, dishwasher etc.)
  • Clean the dryers lint trap every use and vent tube every season to maintain efficiency.
  • Turn off electrical devices when not in the room.
  • Limit Phantom Charges.Although electrical devices are turned off they still consume electricity called a Phantom Charge.Unplug devices that are not used regularly.
  • Use energy efficient lights.
  • Clean the coils on the back of the refrigerator to maintain efficiency.

Water Usage

  • Install low flow faucets and shower heads to reduce water usage.
  • Attach a rain barrel to your eves-trough and use collected water for your lawn and garden.
  • Do not run taps while brushing your teeth.
  • Wrap hot water pipes with insulation.
